More than 150 Bangladeshi nationals who had been stranded in Libya have successfully returned to Bangladesh. The group arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning on a specially chartered flight, marking the end of their difficult journey.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the repatriation was carried out through a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Upon their arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the returnees were warmly received by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from IOM. Most of these Bangladeshis had illegally entered Libya, intending to travel to Europe by sea, often under the influence of human traffickers. Many endured severe hardships, including abduction and torture, during their time in Libya, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials from the Ministry have called on the returning migrants to spread awareness about the dangers of illegal migration, particularly the perilous journey through Libya in an attempt to reach Europe.

In an effort to support their reintegration, IOM provided each returnee with a grant of Rs 6,000, along with food, medical assistance, and temporary accommodation where necessary.
