In the African country of Burkina Faso, a militant group associated with al-Qaeda killed 600 people in a few hours. This information is known from the journalist assigned to Africa of Daily World Press on Friday.

It is known that Al-Qaeda affiliated militant organization Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslim (JNIM) attacked the city of Barsalogho last August and killed 600 people. Most of the dead were women and children. It is seen as one of the deadliest attacks in the West African country.

The United Nations first reported that 200 people were killed in the attack by militants in the city of Barsalogho. It was later reported by JNIM that they killed around 300 fighters. However, citing the information of the French government, CNN said that more than six hundred people were shot dead in a few hours that day.

A person who survived the attack said that the assailant came on a motorcycle. Two members of his family were killed in this attack. Their bodies were recovered three days later.

Burkina Faso’s army recently ordered the digging of trenches in the town of Barsalogho to protect it from militants.

According to the information of the non-governmental organization ACLED, almost 4 thousand people have been killed in the attacks of al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) in the world this year.

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world. Since 2015, more than 20 thousand people have died in the attacks of militants in the country.
