No Kyung Chol has been appointed as North Korea’s new defense minister. The country’s state media KCNA reported this information on Wednesday.

The new defense minister is expected to strengthen Pyongyang’s position against South Korea.

According to KCNA, Noe’s name was announced as the new defense minister in an important meeting. He is succeeded by the name Kang Sun. However, no details have been given about this change.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited Singapore in 2018 and Vietnam in 2019 to meet former US President Donald Trump. Kim’s companion on these trips was No Kyung Chol.

There were fears North Korea could scrap the landmark 1991 inter-Korean accord at a meeting this week. With that, Kim Jong-un can officially identify South Korea as an ‘enemy state’. However, no such announcement came from the meeting held on Tuesday.
